Embroidery Machine?
Topic started by christine011 on June 10, 2010
Hi,  I've just joined Spotlight online - have been a member for quite some time but due to work commitments I have been unable to do this.
I notice to join this group you must have a digital Embroidery Machine????  I have only got a Janome Decor Excel Pro 5124 which has a few embroidery stitches built in, but not digital.  Is it possible I might get some helpful hints from you lot?
Many thanks
Christine

Embroidering on a Baby's all in One
Topic started by Pauline on Jan. 14, 2010
Ever tried embroidering on those little all -in -ones that babies tend to wear instead of singlets these days? tricky little devils to hoop up & get the embroidery onto straight. I've done a blog on how to do them if you have the desire to try it out.
Can be found here http://oz-tralien.blogspot.com/ [oz-tralien.blogspot.com] just need to scroll down to it
Great Gift Idea

What fun I've had the past few days making baby shoes! These are very similar to an expensive brand thats available commercially for babies & toddlers made in leather.
All you need is some leather pieces or furnishing leather/ultra suede & about 30 minutes. I managed to make 4 pair in quick succession & had to stop before I made any more-the yet to be born baby will be grown out of them bore she gets a chance to wear them all!LOL
I found a free pattern on a site called tacky living & shrunk it on the printer.
A small machine embroidery on the vamp worked well on a pink ultra suede pair.
Lots more about them on my oz-tralien blog & I'll post some pics to my photo album here as well.

I mainly make embroidered baby items, and cute kids stuff. Also working on all the Christmas pressies I have had planned for months - quilts, kitchen sets and some table runners.

      favourite designs include
      bunnycup and designsbyjuju :D

    • Hi-nice to see someone join me in here!LOL
I'll embroider anything that isn't nailed down. At the moment I'm putting together notes for a project on a quilt which will be published next year- baby quilt that looks difficult but is so easy...mostly because I'm a lazy quilter!
Have done 20 towels with names for a friend- fixed her xmas list for her! Have lots in mind to do, its finding the time to get to them all. Next year will see me doing more baby things as my daughter is expecting her first (a girl) early May- so the machine will get a real hammering then.

    • My daughter has asked for 1 of everything I've made everyone else! that could keep me sewing for a long time!-lucky its a girl so I get to make all the girly things.
At this stage I'm working on quilts- one is for publication & the other will probably be for the baby, I do a lot of towels with names on them for everyone (on blogger as oz-tralien)-I'll be making dresses, rompers & bibs & everything will have some sort of embroidery on it. I do take pics of every project I make so there will be lots to see as I keep sewing!LOL

    • Hi everyone. My embroidery machine hardly ever gets to rest. Daughter and daughter-in-law keep giving me projects. Yes, I too like the cute designs from Bunnycup. Have a look at emblibrary.com. Fabulous designs and freebies each month.

    • HI Everyone, I also have a embroidery machine, however mine hardly sees the light of day, mainly due to lack of confidence and the area I reside does not have craft classess for my machine. Not even spotlight classes. So I thought I might get inspiration to do something from here online. Opps forgot to say hubby even got me a new laptop to get me motivated. Bad I havent even loaded program

    • Maybe we can change that for you. I never took any lessons for my machine- I could never get the time to get to the dealer so am self taught.
Wha sort of machine do you have & what software are you using- its a start!?

    • I have a Bernina Artista, Editor Plus Version 5.
Its more not knowing what I need to put on the top ie: Wash Away, Tear Away etc. What to make. I can do towels and I have used my machine, but I used to live near a textiles teacher. I think its more lack of confidence and ideas

    • always remember its only fabric if you muff it up.
      what interests you in sewing?
When I do towels (& honestly each person will have their own way )
I hoop up tear aways stabilizer in the hoop. Transfer design to machine- checking that the orientation of the design will put the bulk of the towel to the left of the machine. I do a baste around onto the stabilizer- shows exact placement.. Then I put the towel onto the stabilizer, lining up the basting outline to where I want it to stitch out . I then stitch the towel & the solvy (which is what you need to put on top when doing anything with a napped fibre that can be washed) repeating the basting stitch- its all firmly in the hoop, I know where its going to stitch the design & off I go. I personally dislike spray adhesives-this is a personal preference-I find they are sticky, messy & gum up my needle! There are many embroiderers out there who think I'm crazy for not using spray....each to their own.

    • Hi I've only just found out about this group, due to an email sent to me from spotlight. I have recently purchased a Brother Embroidery Machine and Purchased a piece of software online Called Embird. Have played around with the machine, but not really made anything much yet. I'd really like to embroider towell's but have been too scared to try. I have been reading your comment above and trying to understand it. What do you mean by basting around the stabiliser for placement? What is Solvy? Is that the plastic that dissolves in water. Any help will be great

    • On my machine I have a tack down or basting feature. I send the design to the machine (or load it into the machine)-after I have hooped up stabilizer I then insert the hoop into the embroidery arm-I can select the feature that then stitches around in a rectangle where the design will be placed- then I lay the towel on top of this right where I want the design to be on the towel, knowing that if I line it up right it will stitch in exactly that spot.

    • I then baste (tack down again) this time placing the solvy on top of the towel & yes solvy is the plastic stuff that washed out in water. Now I have the stabilizer hooped & the towel & the solvy stitched to the stabilizer but not hooped (for me this works better as the towels are too thick to be sticking in my hoops all the time)- then I stitch the design out. You can use a spray adhesive-I dont personally like these there are many who love them. You can download a baste around free from many sites on the web if you dont have the feature & add it in as the first 2 colour changes.
here are some ideas for towel designs

    • Hi,
Just found this site also, nice to see that there are other machine embroiderers here.
I have been machine embroidering for about 15yrs now. Am also self taught and have taught many others how to use their machines and to be able to get the best out of them.
What is it that you would like to know. We probably all could help you out here.
